Elgi Equipments Ltd, a leading manufacturer of air compressors and automotive equipment, today announced results for the third quarter of 2007-08, posting a PAT of Rs. 95 million, compared to Rs. 67 million during the same period of 2006-07. For the nine months ended Dec 07, sales grew by 32% from Rs.2715 million for the same period in 2006-07 to Rs.3570 million. Profits grew by 77% for the same period. The results were approved by the committee of the Board at its meeting held on 31st Dec 07. Infrastructure sector continues to contribute to the healthy growth in the compressor business. During the quarter Elgi bagged major orders in the power sector. In spite of weakening of Dollar, international business has grown by 11% as compared to the previous year. Commenting on the occasion, Dr.Jairam Varadaraj, MD of Elgi Equipments said, “the strategic initiatives implemented during the year are beginning to show results and the future looks bright. The components exports business has begun to grow well and is in the process of strengthening the relationship with our customers”. “The Automotive equipment business remained to be sluggish due to lower off take of cars and two wheelers. Extension of the business to defence sector and retail sector has contributed to the growth of automotive business by 22% in the quarter under review” added Dr.Jairam Varadaraj. The company is poised for continued growth in the coming quarter and end the current financial year with planned sales and profits.
