In rotary screw compressors, there are no valves or other mechanical forces that may cause unbalance. The screw element comprises two rotors similar to a helix, each with a different shape and number of grooves\/teeth. As the atmospheric air is sucked into this screw element, it progresses with the rotors and gets compressed. A male and a female rotor element bring the air to trap and release when required.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In an oil-lubricated rotary screw-type air compressor, the motor or engine drives the male rotor, and the male rotor or the thin film of oil between the male and female rotors drives the female rotor.<\/li>\n<li>In an <a class=\"inner-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.elgi.com\/id\/oil-free-compressors\/\">oil-free rotary screw-type air compressor<\/a>, gears control the timing of the male and female rotor. There is no oil present to seal the chamber.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The basic working principle of a rotary-type screw air compressor is that the male and female rotors spin in opposite directions. The prime mover turns the rotor of the airend in a rotary screw air compressor and develops a vacuum that drives the surrounding air into the airends through the air filter. As the rotors turn progressively, the air gets trapped in the spaces between the two screws (rotors).<\/p>\n<p>Air is injected from the atmosphere into the rotary screw compressor through the air intake system. First, the air is made to pass through a filter that extracts suspended particles. The filtered air then enters the airend, which is the heart of the rotary screw air compressor. Here in the airend, the air is trapped within the spaces between the two rotors with lobes that mesh.
